A time of about 10
years in a woman’s life, during which her body changes its secretion and
processing of the hormones needed for reproduction. Time varies but major cause
is imbalance bet progesterone and estrogen.
As we mature and approach the midlife, the hormones that have been
working in the body begin to diminish as the organs age and ‘ask’ for a break.
The hormonal changes naturally result in some changes in the body, some of
which are not pleasant. The
most obvious signs of the middle age for women are symptoms associated with
approaching menopause and the menopause itself. The men feel some discomforts
like pain in their joints, mental slowing or a bit of memory loss, prostrate
and libido problems, but most men do not attribute them to age or hormonal
problems because they do not have any definite general sign like the stopping
of menses. However, they have their own andropause, too! Their hormones take a
dip, resulting in various symptoms that range from vague to acute and definite
kinds of discomforts that before now were not associated with age or hormone.
We have devoted a chapter to this topic in the book titled "MIDLIFE PASSAGE WITH EASE".
