EPISODE 24 - GENDER EQUALITY AND SOCIETAL DEVELOPMENT

In the last episode we looked at the male tendency to love risks and be courageous and the female endowment to quickly see the overall bigger picture and be intuitive on leadership.
We can all agree that the strengths of both gender should always be used in decision making if we want to give the best to the society. Give example of US scrutiny of Michelle’s personality when Obama was being considered for presidency and the fact that she held the bible with him during the swearing ceremony.
Today we will still stay with the issue of gender but look at popular word, equality and see how it relates to societal growth and modernity.
For some time now, there is a global call for equal opportunities in all spheres of life and that call has extended to the maxim among feminists that ‘’what a man can do a woman can do even better’’. Well, all these are not without reasons: we live in a male-dominated society where laws are made mostly by men and are executed by them. A woman may spend her life savings putting up a building with her husband and if the man suddenly dies, the in laws sweep down on the woman to release the documents of the building to them. Or a man and a woman may be vying for an elective post and the woman does everything by say, debates and past records to show that she is a better candidate. But the men, in many cases will gang up to push her aside and then offer to give her a lesser post to assuage her and actually expect her to be grateful for it. And so on. So the clamor for equality rages on.
Discussant: Can you qualify the word equality for us and do you believe that what a man can do, a woman can do better?
2. Why do you think men are often reluctant to have women at the helm of affairs? Is there a way to douse that fear?
Rap up:
Men and women are equal but not the same. Feminity encompasses softness, gentleness, and graciousness that men don’t have. It is women to whom men look up to bring out their gentler natures, inflame their passion, show them the missing lines and motivate them to action.
Masculinity, on the other hand, portrays more courage for risky ventures, more stamina and heart for hard decisions and their presence portrays a kind of protection.
Both genders are needed for governance, family and societal health.  I don’t need to be man-like in character to be in politics or be the M.D of my corporation; am only coming there to use my feminity to infuse more care, compassion and gentility into governance. And I like the men on board with me to complement my work with their courage and protection. And so rather than struggling for superiority or feeling threatened by the presence of one another, we should use our God-given endowments for the good of all
Tip For The Week
Relaxation and self affirmation technique
Make conscious effort to take a stroll along quiet streets near trees and gardens and intermittently pause to appreciate the beauty of nature. Expand your appreciative and welcoming spirit to include all created things including that man or woman that you feel is undermining your personality. Try to see the good in him or her and empathize with that person. Then take a decision to be more accommodating, and friendly. You and the society will be healthier for it.
