This is a program that looks at the kinds of persons that
make up the personality in our polity. It looks at human sexuality with
emphasis on psychosexual development, character impartation and the
consequential quality of persons that make up our polity. We see people with
all kinds of character in all spheres of life and we wonder whether these
lifestyles and values are as a result of our upbringing or the influence of our
environment. It will be stating the
obvious to say that our government or any kind of leadership structure, for
that matter, is dependent on the quality of persons occupying the positions and
if we don’t know what we should look out for in selecting our leaders and their
advisers, then we should not complain if the ones we choose give us anything
they have even if it plunges us deeper into a worse state than we already find
ourselves.
Besides leadership, this program will be addressing
different aspects of human relationships like family life, adolescent years,
community settings, workforce, societal values and literarily all the issues
that affect our quality of lives as individuals and as a society with a view
to dissecting the root cause of human
problems and proffering possible solutions.
Today our focus will be on gender character specificity and
leadership.
Males, from the womb are imbued with hormones that
facilitate risk taking and this makes them tempt the laws of gravity and
sometimes ignore common sense; they are aggressive, assertive, competitive,
love risky ventures and not so emotional with issues.
Females, on the other hand, have more of the happy
messenger- hormone(serotonin) that make them to be generally gentle, emotional,
avoid risks and are care givers.
Beyond these obvious tendencies, are some other traits that
shape our characters but are not so obvious to the man on the streets; this
male hormonal bath, soon after conception, makes the transmission of info from
part of the brain to the other less efficient than that of the woman. Therefore
a man thinks longer about what he believes in especially if the issue has
emotional component with it. Again, there is more localization of language development
in the males than the females. That’s why a woman recovers faster from speech
impairment say by stroke illness than the men. Thirdly, men are reluctant to
share(want their space), are self absorbed and self-centered.
Woman can access info from both sides of the brain and
discern almost immediately how she feels and is also more articulate and sees
the overall picture quicker than her male counterpart. She is more intuitive (driven
more by instinct), more compassionate, wants to share(more open) and thinks
more of others than herself.
LIKELY IMPLICATIONS OF THESE FOR THE POLITY?
Discussant : 1.What is leadership? Leadership, more so, governance, requires
knowledge courage, stamina, intuition,
intelligence, care or empathy, and the ability to see the overall picture
better and faster than others.
2. In the light of the background knowledge we have about
gender endowments who do you think will make a better leader, all other factors
being the same? Complementarities.
3. If both genders are necessary for effective delivery, why
do you think women are discriminated against by the males in most leadership
position?
RECOMMENDATION: Woman have to be encouraged to come on board
if we are serious about having good leadership. Any society that undermines
this issue is only harming itself( mention Michelle holding the bible while Obama
swore). And I recommend that some arrangement can be made either by some NGO’S
OR INDIVIDUALS to pull resources together
to sponsor women that are found to be capable in leadership.
