All other things being equal, those who are conscious of
what they eat to keep their blood healthy and flowing well and who nourished
their brains with the right nutrients from their young ages are not likely to
have as much memory problems as those who did not.
Factors that age the brain:-
·
Cumulative effect of free radical damage in the
brain over the years.
·
Decline in the energy output of brain cells.
·
Significant declines in the key hormones after
the age of 40.
·
Diminished oxygen availability to brain cells
(due to atherosclerosis or heart diseases, smoking, excessive drinking, drug
abuse, limited exercise, poor diet or stress).
·
Changes in life style, diet and nutrient
absorption (causing important nutrient deficiency).
·
Abuse of children.
How to Reduce Brain Damaging
·
Avoiding pollution: the first step in
detoxifying the brain is to reduce the intake of further toxins that can worsen
the damage. Toxins such as smoke, much alcohol intake, exhaust fumes, much
consumption of chemicals from artificial food products among others. Once there,
toxins can dull mental functioning, cause personality changes, coma or even
death.
·
Attitude and Personality: there are other things
not classified as toxins but have the same damaging effect as toxins. Depression,
stress and grief can also fill the brain with ‘toxins’ which the body release
in response to stress and depression and these chemicals affect our memories
and total mental health adversely.
