EPISODE 26 - EARLY NURTURANCE AND PERSONAL CHARACTER

In the last two episodes we quickly analyzed our uniqueness as males and females vis-a- vis leadership and marital relationship and I know is still a burning one. We will be making references to them as we go on. But today we will be looking at human warmth ( or psychosexual development and character molding) and societal effect.
These days a young man makes bold to go and kidnap a woman or man of 85years who probably has asthma, heart problem, high B.P and so on all because he wants to make money. Is it really the money factor that is responsible for this menace or is there an underlying deficiency in the growing up years of these youths?
Overview: A child connects with the mother even while in the womb. Research has proven that somewhere between the 28th and 32nd weeks of pregnancy the unborn baby’s brain becomes mature enough to support consciousness(Thomas Verny1981). He could experience pleasure and get startled to sudden loud sounds, when the mother is unhappy or tensed up , he is affected. That is the energy of connection. This connection is carried over when the child is born. A child studies the face of the mother or whoever plays that role  and connects intimately with that person. This cuddling and general show of affection affects the child’s growth as much as the food he eats. Experiments with animals and observed experiences  have proven that when the gift of touch in a healthy and innocent way is denied a child, his emotional life tends to be shunted and he may grow up feeling emotionally and even spiritually deflated. This can have devastating consequences in one’s adult life.
There are other factors that can play a role in desensitizing individuals and turning them into a menace  in the society--- peer pressure, bad leadership example, lack of punishment for offenders, the worship of money without integrity....
Discussant: what do you think is responsible for the sudden surge of kidnapping cases in our country today?
What steps do you think should be taken to stem the tide and how do we re-orientate our youths?
Is there any relationship between this new culture of kidnapping and the attitude of our leaders regarding application of funds?
Advice: A true sign of maturity is the ability of one to organize oneself to project the best image that he can possibly nurture irrespective of the obstacles in his way. Your Childhood may have been traumatized, the leaders around you may not be showing the best examples, your neighborhood may not be very conducive for living an upright life but we are all born alone and must personally choose the path to follow in life and answer for ourselves. No excuses or past histories should enslave you and mar   your present conduct. Characters are not made during crisis, they only come to light then.
Tip for the week  ---Anger management (Action)
I f you are always angry and tensed up about the evil happenings around you pls do the following; Take a pen and paper, write down all you’ve done in life, your contributions and observations. Then state all the ills you’ve been witnessing around you till date, and then state what and what you.ve done to correct the ills in your family, kindred, village , church and workplace. Do you honestly feel you have contributed your bit in sanitizing this society. If not, start doing something about it.
